We are looking for a cure for everyone. Support scientific research on cystic fibrosis

Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation

The Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation (FFC Ricerca) was established in 1997 with the aims of fostering and funding scientific research into cystic fibrosis; training young researchers and healthcare personnel; contributing to the management of research laboratories through special agreements; spreading information about the disease, targeting the general public.

FFC Ricerca is approved by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) as a promoter of scientific research into the disease. The studies promoted and funded by FFC Ricerca aim at upgrading the currently available treatments to enhance the quality of life and the life expectancy of the people with CF (pwCF) and at understanding the basics of the defect that causes cystic fibrosis and providing a cure for all pwCF.

This is an English page about the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation. It is not a translation of the full Italian website.

  • Who we are – Social Report 2022, short version
  • The Calls – The mission of FFC Ricerca is to boost scientific research on cystic fibrosis. The best research projects are selected through an external peer-review process followed by a final evaluation by the Foundation Scientific Committee. The calls will be open for applications from the 15th of December to the 31st of January.
  • Our research – The research projects to be financed are selected by the Foundation’s Scientific Committee on the basis of two fundamental objectives: improving the treatments available, to increase the quality and length of life of patients; strike at the root of the defect that causes cystic fibrosis, to find a definitive cure for everyone; To support the network of researchers, the Foundation also invests in three research services.
  • The research projects – All research projects financed by the Foundation are divided by fields of investigation. There are two fundamental objectives on the basis of which they are selected by the FFC Ricerca Scientific Committee: to improve the treatments available, to increase the quality and length of life of patients; strike at the root of the defect that causes cystic fibrosis, to find a definitive cure.

  • Research facilities – Through agreements with qualified institutions, the Foundation has launched three support services for its research network:
    • a centralized structure dedicated to the use of animal models (CFaCore), to transfer basic knowledge to preclinical applications, encouraging the development of new strategies for the treatment of the disease;
    • a service dedicated to the preparation and distribution of primary cultures of respiratory epithelium, to give researchers the possibility of using a cellular model that is as similar as possible to the bronchial epithelium in vivo (Primary Cultures Service);
    • an online consultation tool (CFDB), which allows a quick and detailed search of all clinical trials in cystic fibrosis.
